I am and have been searching for a good, or rather the “BEST” note taking app for quite some time now. I started out with CherryTree, I saw it mentioned on Hack the Box forums, so I gave it a whirl. I liked it, but then someone mentioned KeepNote, on the same forum. I liked that even more, I could copy a whole node tree and paste it in, use it as a template for future boxes and keep the nodes as a sort of methodology checker. Then I heard of Joplin, I tried and tried to make it work, but no bananas, so I searched for an alternative and found MindForger. I love that application, but there are some caveats to it. The menus are… well… weird… Instead of Open file, it’s Remember… It’s supposed to feel like a mind thingie… And I was beginning to need/want a image function where I could just paste in a screenshot. CherryTree and Keepnote have that. But I was hooked on Mindforger’s markdown… Finally the journey has come to a full circle, I am about to give CherryTree another go, especially after I figured out I can save the node “template” as a CherryTree file and just import it whenever I start a new box. I can paste images from the clipboard. Only drawback is the lack of Markdown, but I think I can live with it. Biggest drawback with Mindforger was that sometimes the markdown file would get borked and mess up the entire thing, the repository thingie I couldn’t get my head around… So… CherryTree it is.. again…
